Changing the Future with Strengthened Change Capabilities

Framtiden Group owns and manages 76,000 homes in Gothenburg, most of them located in vulnerable areas. In 2020, a joint strategy was adopted with the goal that no residential area should be on the police’s list of vulnerable areas. Our task was to support leadership, managers, and employees in organisational development – and to strengthen and engage the organisation in carrying out the strategy.

The case in brief

Challenge

One in four Gothenburg residents lives in a Framtiden Group property – Sweden’s largest public housing provider and one of the country’s biggest real estate companies. In 2020, Framtiden decided on a group-wide development strategy extending to 2030, with the aim that none of its residential areas should remain on the police’s list of vulnerable areas.

Solution

Gullers Grupp was commissioned to support the executive leadership and the wider organisation in bringing the group strategy to life. The work was done in close collaboration with Framtiden, focusing on building knowledge, motivation and capacity for implementing and activating the strategy.

Our hands-on, tailored methodology focused on developing and engaging the organisation by creating conditions for dialogue, encouraging innovative ways of working, and introducing effective governance structures – all to support more efficient change processes.

Together with Framtiden, we took a holistic approach to driving long-term transformation. An initial feasibility study laid the groundwork for future phases. We mapped existing processes and workflows and assessed the organisational culture. The work was then divided into modules based on themes from the strategy – such as safety and security.

We developed a digital platform with separate entry points for managers and employees. The platform was filled with videos, quizzes, real-life stories and interactive exercises – all designed to build understanding of the strategy, boost engagement and strengthen employees’ ability to execute.

A unifying change narrative and the concept “Allt vi kan” (Everything We Can) served as a common thread throughout the activities.

Result

The goal has been to spark a lasting movement that engages employees – and above all, makes a real difference. In Framtiden’s regular surveys on employee engagement and conditions, we now see a positive trend: employees feel more secure in their roles and have a clearer understanding of their mission and what support to expect from their employer.

In fact, one residential area was already removed from the police’s list of vulnerable areas in 2023. Among residents, perceived safety has increased and is now above the average for Gothenburg as a whole.

To summarise: By taking a holistic approach to organisational development and working systematically in close collaboration with managers and frontline staff, it is possible to achieve remarkable results. Today, Framtiden is a more change-capable organisation – with strengthened abilities to continue its mission of creating safer neighbourhoods. A mission that matters not just to the employees and managers of Framtiden – but to the residents of these communities, and to society at large.
